About Dr. Tien Trinh
Dr. Trinh has been in medicine for over 4 decades and continues to implement patient-centric models in each of his endeavors. The lack of such a mindset in the current medical space pushed him to become entrepreneurial in these endeavors, working to create a multi-faceted network centered around his passion for putting the patient as the foremost priority. His career is a testimony to this, with his medical and entrepreneurial drive fostering his involvement in;
- Founding and Leading Paragon Physician Medical Group: Dr. Trinh co-founded Paragon, significantly impacting healthcare delivery in Santa Clara County. His responsibilities ranged from strategic planning and physician recruitment to managing financial operations and overseeing the medicine department at Good Samaritan Hospital.
- CEO of Santa Clara County Independent Practice Association (IPA): As CEO, Dr. Trinh successfully navigated the complexities of managing 827 independent physicians and a budget exceeding $150 million. His leadership resulted in streamlined physician contracts, innovative financial incentive programs, and significant increases in revenue, demonstrating his exceptional business acumen and commitment to physician well-being.
- Building Highly Successful Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs): Dr. Trinh’s expertise extends to the innovative model of ACOs. As CEO of Akira Health MSSP ACO, he established three successful ACOs managing the care for over 21,000 Medicare beneficiaries. This achievement showcases his strategic vision and ability to effectively coordinate care within a large and diverse population.
- Pioneering Role in Innovative Healthcare Models: His leadership in the development of the Akira MSO further demonstrates his commitment to efficiency and innovation in healthcare delivery. This Management Services Organization provides comprehensive administrative and care management services to ACOs ensuring regulatory compliance, analyzing data, and coordinating interventions to optimize patient outcomes. He was also responsible for the development of a patient-centric EHR, empowering individuals to control and manage their own health information.

Oversees administrative and care management services for MSSP ACO’s. The MSO ensures compliance with all MSSP regulations, it processes Medicare data enabling detailed analysis of care utilization and expenses of ACO patient population.
Akira Health MSSP ACO, 2013-Present | CEO
Established Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations (MSSP ACO) that contracted directly with the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services to manage the health care of Medicare beneficiaries. Between 2013 and 2015, three MSSP ACO’s started, all of which Dr. Trinh played a critical role in developing ; Akira Health, Inc., Akira Health of Fresno, and Akira Health of Los Angeles. The ACO’s have a presence throughout the entire state of California as well as the island of Guam.
Juventas, Inc., 2000-Present | CEO
Dr. Trinh provides oversight to the company’s current and future partnerships. He has worked with Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Stanford Medical School, University Healthcare Alliance, and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital to establish the medical foundation. Assisted El Camino Hospital in physician network development. Developed clinical operational strategies for Plum Healthcare to reduce readmission rate and to deliver care to higher-acuity patients at two skilled nursing facilities in Santa Clara County. Consulting for Covenant Care and Cambridge Healthcare Services in the development of a post-acute care program and physician network for skilled nursing facilities located in Orange County, LA County, San Diego County, Fresno County, and Santa Clara County.
Independent Practice Association of Santa Clara County, 2008-2010 | CEO
Represented the interests of 827 independent physicians and managed 100K commercial lives with a budget of $150M. Streamlined physician contracts and implemented a financial incentive program that dispensed two bonuses every year based on quality and utilization of care. Renegotiated all HMO contracts to achieve 5-7% annual increase in PMPM payment. Increased capital reserve from $3M to $20M.
Paragon Physician Medical Group, Inc., 2000-2014 | Cofounder
Focused on inpatient physician services at Good Samaritan, O’Connor, and El Camino Hospitals in Santa Clara County. Responsible for strategic planning, contracting, marketing, physician recruitment, and financial operations of the corporation. Served as chairperson of the medicine department at Good Samaritan Hospital from 2004-2006 and on the quality assurance and utilization review committee at Good Samaritan Hospital. Established cost-saving programs for Health Net and Secure Horizons Medicare Advantage Plan by directly admitting patients from the ER to skilled nursing facilities.
Kaiser Permanente at Santa Teresa Medical Center, 1998-2000
Helped to develop a full-time hospitalist program. Served on the utilization committee to improve length of stay in hospital and skilled nursing facilities. Served on the quality assurance committee to conduct chart reviews and address quality issues regarding hospital services. Chaired the joint committee of hospital-based physicians and hospital nursing administration to plan and implement strategies to improve patient flow through the emergency room and hospital. Represented Santa Teresa Medical Center Hospitalist Division at regional meetings.
Gould Medical Foundation, 1996-1998
Practiced as an internist in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Started the hospitalist program for the medical group.
Family Health Foundation of Alviso, 1986-1989
Directed health education programs for the indigent population. Organized community health events and procured grants for community health projects. Conducted efficiency studies to improve clinic operations. Conducted internal audit and quality assurance activities within the organization. Marketed the Medicare Waiver Program for the senior population in San Jose. Established and managed satellite clinics that provided health care to the homeless population, migrant workers, and undocumented immigrants.
